About the area
Just seven kilometers (4.3miles) separate Malia from Chersonissos, an attraction to young people globally. During the day, the area is vibrant due to the busy sandy beach, cafes, restaurants, shops while during the night, it changes faces. It transforms itself to a partying place, full of bars and clubs.
Plateau of Lassithi
In a 817-865 meters latitude, the Plateau is surrounded by the mountains of Dikti. The findings in the caves (Psixro and Dikteon Antron) of the area are of great importance for the prehistoric era of eastern Crete. Around twenty picturesque villages are spread around it, full of taverns of local cuisine and shops with traditional handmade textiles.
The seaside city is the capital of the Lassithi Prefecture of Crete. Built around a picturesque and legendary lake at the north-western side of the Merabello Bay, its centre is full of shops, taverns, restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs. The beauty here is endless as wherever one looks, the water element dominates. From its port there are daily boat trips to Spinalonga, the famous former lepers' colony.
Crete Golf Club
Crete Golf Club is the only one on the island offering an 18-hole course. It has been designed by the British architect Bob Hun and has hosted championships such as the EGA Mens' Challenge Trophy. Apart from the remarkable course, it also offers golf lovers dazzling sea and mountain views.
One of the most technologically advanced maritime research centres in the Mediterranean basin, the Aquarium accommodates thousands of fish and living organisms. Together with Thalassokosmos complex, it covers around 6 hectares of the former American Base facilities in Gouves.
